How to Use Sheet Music Practice Mode

Welcome to the Web Harmonium practice guide! Our interactive sheet music mode is designed to help musicians of all levels—from absolute beginners to advanced players—master the harmonium with ease. By following our guided key system, you can learn new songs and scales without needing to read complex traditional notation.

1. How to Practice with Built-in Songs

To get started, click the "🎵 Practice Sheet Music" button above the keyboard. You will find a collection of built-in songs like Sa Re Ga Ma (Basic Scale), Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and Happy Birthday.

  • Select a Song: Click on any song card to load it.
  • Follow the Highlight: A golden pulse will appear on the keyboard indicating the current note you need to play.
  • Progress Automatically: Once you press the correct key, the highlight will move to the next note in the sequence.
  • Watch Your Score: After finishing the song, you will receive an accuracy score (S, A, B, or C) based on your performance.

2. How to Add Your Own Sheet Music (Minimalist Format)

You don't need to be a music theorist to add your own songs! We use a simplified Keyboard Character Format. Simply find the "Type Notes" tab in the practice panel and enter the characters printed on our virtual keys.

Example Format: Q Q E E R R E - W W Q Q ` `
  • Characters: Use the letters or symbols visible on the keys (e.g., Q, W, E, 1, 2, 4).
  • Spaces: Separate each note with a space.
  • Rests: Use a hyphen (-) to indicate a pause or rest in the music.

3. Using the Recording Mode

If typing isn't your style, you can use the Recording Mode. This is the easiest way for anyone to create a practice loop:

  1. Go to the "Record" tab in the Practice Panel.
  2. Click "🔴 Start Recording".
  3. Play your melody on the keyboard.
  4. Click "⬛ Stop Recording".
  5. The system will automatically convert your performance into a practice track with highlights!

Why Practice Harmonium Online?

Traditional music learning often feels daunting. Our online harmonium training tool bridges the gap between digital convenience and authentic musicality. Interactive practice improves muscle memory, key recognition, and rhythm without the need for an expensive physical instrument.

Pro Tips for Better Practice

  • Slow Down: Speed isn't everything. Focus on pressing the correct keys first.
  • Use Headphones: Hear the subtle reed resonances more clearly.
  • Transpose to Suit: Use the Transpose control to match the notes to your vocal range.

What are Sargam Notes?

In Indian classical music, Sargam refers to the notes (Swara) of the scale: Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, Ni. Practicing these daily on our virtual harmonium is the best way to build a strong musical foundation. Our built-in "Basic Scale" song is the perfect place to start.
